The Mission of MDI – To cause greatness by mentoring men to live with excellence and as mature masculine leaders, create successful families, careers and communities.
Every year since 2014, this periodical has crowned a “Legacy Magazine MDI Man of the Year.” It has been bestowed on that man who has done the most to live the mission and core values of MDI, as well as promote the organization in some public way, showing up as an example for successful families, careers and communities. The key factor here – as the award is given through a public magazine – is that the man makes public this men’s organization in some manner.
In years past we acknowledged these men:
• 2014 – Ashanti Branch – Western Region
• 2015 – Jeff Lawrence – Western Canada Region
• 2016 – Brian Mumford – New England Region
• 2017 – Ian Kennard – Eastern Canada
• 2018 – Eric Mortimer – Canada
• 2019 – “The Man We Lost”
• 2020 – David Smith – Canada
• 2021 – “The Mature Masculine Leader“
• 2022 – Erfan Ahmadi – Atlas
NOW LET US INTRODUCE THE 2023 LEGACY MAGAZINE MDI MAN OF THE YEAR
Jonathan Lane, 44, was nominated by Toby Fisher. Lane has consistently and eagerly promoted Mentor Discover Inspire by not only completing a Legacy Discovery in his first few month of membership, he was been a strong presence on the training team for two more Legacy Discoveries within his first year of membership. A film location manager by trade residing in Winnipeg, Canada, Lane is married with one 9-year-old son and an 8-year-old daughter. He is presently the XO of the team Mature Masculine Men, within Atlas.
While Jonathan Lane is newer to MDI, he wasted no time taking leadership. He has already been a team gel for Legacy Discovery not one time but two times. He is likely to be the next Mature Masculine Men team leader, and we would be lucky. He has been involved in promotion of MDI heavily. I can think of no man that has jumped as hard, fast, and more effective for MDI’s mission. Do not let his newer status within MDI fool you, he is a powerhouse of energy, commitment, and passion. Jonathan Lane is from Winnipeg and a Canada Location Manager for the film Industry for the Continental Region, with multiple film credits. He is also a loving father and husband and makes time for all, exemplifying the mature masculine man committed to the mission of MDI.

I’ve had the privilege of knowing Jonathan Lane since he came to the Bay Area in 2023 to complete his Legacy Discovery. Since he did that weekend, he has gone on to staff two more Legacy Discoveries outside his area, and is really leaning into discovering his own warrior energy. I know him to be a solid contributor to MDI, a devoted husband and a hard worker. I think he is completely deserving of the Legacy Magazine Man of the Year Award!
I served with Lane on the LD training team for the Head Smashed In LD weekend, and I agree, Lane is totally committed to our work, and shows up with intent, honour, heart and integrity. Great choice for Man of the Year!
I also worked with Mr. Lane at this past Legacy Discovery Weekend in Calgary.
This man is a calm, collected leader. He was a great support to me when I questioned myself and my ability to follow-through.
Very pleased for you, Lane.
Looking forward to LD 2024 and the bringing the Warrior energy with you!
