OK. So?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have been associated with the men\u2019s work (through Sterling Men&#8217;s Division and Mentor Discover Inspire) since 1991.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s 28 years, and this is the FIRST time I have ever been on a \u00bd &amp; \u00bd team. The Dog Soldiers are homed in Atlanta, Georgia &#8211; a racially progressive city, perhaps &#8220;THE racially progressive city,&#8221; per a young black man interviewed on the local evening news today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I am a Dog Soldier. And every time a new black man joined us I have had a specific conversation with him:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The men\u2019s division is for men &#8211; all men<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Dog Soldiers are mostly all white \u2013 in a city that is way more black<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We don\u2019t seem to articulate our message in a way that is attractive to black men<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Will you partner with me to change those things and invite black men to join you\/us?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On my team are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An architect of social health equity initiatives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An architect of hospitals, mostly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A fluent German speaker<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Golden Gloves multi-year boxing champion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A former U.S. Army Ranger<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An architect of IT systems and structures \u2013 serving medical scientists globally<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A member of the Martial Arts Hall of Fame<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A professional opera singer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A drummer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A FOREX trader<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Can you tell who is white or black? I bet not.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does it matter?<br><br>Last month when George Floyd was murdered, we all saw it repeatedly on TV, and we were all affected \u2013 deeply. That week at our Zoom team meeting I started it off out of control \u2013 emotionally \u2013 because I had just before seen the replay of Floyd\u2019s demise followed by Nora O\u2019Donnell being moved by the vignettes of a small number of casualties who had died from COVID-19.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It broke me down \u2013 overload \u2013 too much \u2013 STOP IT!!!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How inhuman to calmly kneel and choke the life out of a human \u2013 knowing there is video being taken!&nbsp; How inhuman of the Asian officer who shooed the onlookers away while doing nothing to actually stop it. Over 100,000 people have died from COVID-19 and some people don\u2019t seem to care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Don\u2019t tell me I have to do ANYTHING \u2013 fucker!&nbsp; <\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Care about somebody else? Why? Do they care about me?&nbsp; <\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>What about my business or my freedom or\u2026?<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Should we wear a mask? Or, not? Does it really make any significant difference?&nbsp; Don\u2019t I get to choose for MYSELF?&nbsp; <\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Where does my freedom get infringed?&nbsp;<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>It\u2019s herd immunity man. Didn\u2019t you see the YouTube videoSSSSSS$$$$$, man?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Yep, I\u2018m rambling. Kind of stream of consciousness.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So much division, but not like a men\u2019s division.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have always taken a firm stand AGAINST discussing politics or religion on our men\u2019s teams. What we have has almost always risen above politics or religion and been about the man sitting next to you. His true identity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Would you trust HIM in a foxhole? Not his politics. Not his religion. HIM?&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems such a fragile peace, this thing we have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201cmovement\u201d that is underway now pretty much demands to be discussed \u2013 among us.
